In his Famous “Mann Ki Baat” program Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced about the Rashtriya Poshan Maah while speaking about Malnutrition which is a big National Issue in India, highlighting the affected poor sections of the country due to the lack of knowledge. This step is taken to reach every corner of the country and educate them about complimentary food, treatment, and prevention from infections the government is providing. The entire month of September is celebrated as the Rashtriya Poshan maah/ National Nutrition Month in which the need to stay healthy and nutritious is particularly emphasized and the message regarding the issue of Malnutrition, Under-nutrition, and Obesity is spread across the nation to become a “Malnutrition-free India”.


Prime Minister’s Over Researching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment- that’s what POSHAN means. It is a convergence mission of different ministries to achieve Malnutrition Free India by the expected target of 2022. This great stride was launch in March 2018 from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. The key features of this Abhiyan are as follows:

  1. Achieving Improvement in Nutritional status of:
    1. Children up to 6 years of age.
    1. Adolescent girls.
    1. Lactating mothers.
  2. ICT Based Real-Time Monitoring System.
  3. Time to Time Social Audits.
  4. Mass Participation of people through various activities also Known as JAN ANDOLAN for Nutrition.
  5. Setting Up Nutrition Resource Center.

The Abhiyaan’s eye-catching slogan which suits perfectly with the thought process is “SAHI POSHAN- DESH ROSHAN”
